Access to Fresh, Local Foods -- What's the Value?

JULY 27, 2011 - 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM ET

Access to healthy food is critical to community development activities and promotes overall community health and well-being. Research shows that having access to local, fresh foods creates greater consumption of fruits and vegetables and decreases instances of illness. The creation of community gardens and markets provides opportunities for healthy eating as well as educational opportunities. Such garden projects can be a great option for addressing issues with vacant or abandoned properties. This event, called Access to Fresh, Local Foods, is part of Enterprise Communities' Best Practices series. It will explore ways to bring fresh local produce to lower-income communities and take a look at urban agriculture.  Learn more
