Annual Conference to Focus on Reshaping Suburbs

Suburbs that have become fragmented and sprawling need help and careful planning to become healthy suburban communities.  This years’ Making Cities Livable conference -- Reshaping Suburbia into Complete Healthy Communities -- will include plans, strategies and success stories to effectively reshape suburban areas. Experts from North America and Europe will share methods of transformation including repurposing malls; making schools, churches and hospitals multi-functional; supporting good health by increasing walkability and bikabilty; creating inclusive neighborhoods; fostering civic engagement and community participation; integrating transportation plans; adopting green strategies and much more. Participants will also learn about the strategies that are helping Portland to prevent suburban sprawl such as walkability features and transit strategies that connect neighborhoods.
