Building Community Gardens and Community Assets

APRIL 18, 2013 - 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM ET

Transforming vacant lots into community gardens is a great way to build neighborhood assets.  This free webinar – Community Gardens: Turning Vacant Lots into Urban Assets – will focus on strategies for building urban agriculture in public spaces that are vacant or underutilized. The program will feature a successful community garden and urban agriculture program in Kansas called the Common Ground Program, which started with five pilot sites that included two community gardens, one youth garden, a community orchard for free picking and one market farm coordinated by students. The sustainability coordinator for this program, Eileen Horn, will lead the webinar and provide details on how to develop project goals, the benefits to the community, some lessons learned and how to find program funding and partners.  Click here for details
