Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Training with a Focus on Abandoned Property and Foreclosed Homes

Participants in this training will learn how to use environmental design to prevent crime, with a special focus on abandoned and foreclosed homes in distressed neighborhoods. Proper designs can reduce the incidence of crimes, which is important to consider when revitalizing areas with high foreclosure rates.  The four principals for this work include: natural access control, surveillance, territoriality and maintenance. These and other strategies will be discussed including how to solicit help from law enforcement, city government and the surrounding community. The goal is to improve safety while working to revitalize neighborhoods and improve homes. Training sites include:
