International Downtown Association to Host 58th Annual Conference

The International Downtown Association's annual conference - Poised to Compete - will take place in Minneapolis, MN this year. The event includes break out sessions, plenaries and pre-conference workshops on a wide range of downtown-related topics, but also highlights the unique characteristics of the city and includes recreational activities such as golf excursions and bike tours.  Break out sessions include fundraising topics, sponsorships, zoning issues and mobility challenges as well as dealing with smoking bans, joining the fight against obesity, communicating with retailers, creating downtowns as destinations, building regional food systems and much more.  Plenaries will be held on retail issues, how to nurture community "soul," economic development and creating a sense of pride and responsibility among local businesses.  Pre-conference workshops include economic development, forming a Business Improvement District (BID) and sessions for executive directors. Cocktail hours and coffee hours are also planned, making this event not only an educational experience but an opportunity to network and have fun!  Learn more
