Online Training Available for Potential Homeowners

JANUARY 26, 2014 - 8:00 AM to JANUARY 26, 2015 - 12:00 AM ET

Research shows that homebuyers who receive education are less likely to suffer from a delinquency.  Therefore, as the housing market improves and more people want to buy homes, accessible homebuyer education is important. This online course developed by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Maryland and Delaware helps potential buyers make good decisions and avoid problems, plus navigate the purchase process and responsibilities of homeownership. It is convenient and allows users to learn at a time and place that works for them.  It is based on NeighborWorks America’s “Realizing the American Dream” curriculum and includes clear content, animated videos and unit quizzes that help users to fully understand the material.  The program takes about eight hours to complete.

Topics include:

  • Barriers to homeownership
  • Affordability
  • Budgeting and saving for the purchase
  • How to obtain and review credit reports and credit scores
  • Identifying mortgage options
  • How the loan, negotiation, and settlement processes work
  • Finding the right home
  • Rights and responsibilities as homebuyers

Participants receive a certificate of completion, plus have access to a CCCS housing counselor.  The cost of the course is $75. For more information, visit and click the Housing Counseling tab.
