Workshop: How to Create Healthy, Vibrant Communities

Learn various planning and design principles that support sustainability in all types of communities-- cities, regions, neighborhoods, districts and rural areas -- at this one-day workshop at the University of Oregon in Portland. "Designing Sustainable Communities: Principles and Practices for Creating Healthy, Vibrant Living Environments" will look at how market demands and regulations influence product design, management and green practices, plus will explore how frameworks such as Civic Ecology and EcoDistricts are creating positive change in communities.  Course content includes:

  • Introduction to scales and systems in sustainability
  • Land use and transportation
  • Urban design and landscape
  • Community-scale sustainability rating systems
  • An introduction to Civic Ecology as a community design framework

Participants will receive a copy of the presentation slides, a resource list and the system design created during the session.  Learn more
