Midtown Renaissance: New Directions Housing Corporation
This case study tells the story of a NeighborWorks organization located in a midtown neighborhood outside of Louisville, Kentucky, that is restoring the neighborhood’s health and vitality. Through use of federal funds, the New Directions Housing Corp. is purchasing and renovating 31 abandoned, single-family homes to be refurbished and resold. The story includes details on neighborhood history and the issues that have caused decline over the years. This program is focused on revitalization as well as preserving history, and highlights neighborhood assets such as proximity to Louisville, a local park, recent upgrades to the local school and new affordable housing projects. The story notes challenges, implementation strategies and lessons learned.
