Housing Effort Aims for Revitalization

This article highlights the revitalization work at Chicanos Por La Causa through their version of “Flip this House,” which provides rehab to foreclosed-upon homes that are then sold as an affordable option to low- or moderate-income families. The program is funded through the NSP program and strives to support affordable housing while also boosting local economies. CPLC has purchased 13 homes and will buy 35 more over the next few years. Buyers can earn up to 120 percent of the area median income and must complete an eight-hour homebuyer’s class. Rehabilitation efforts include energy efficiency and sustainability features such as Energy Star appliances, low-flow showerheads, dual-pane windows, and low-VOC paints.
